The self proclaimed, "Best Rapper Alive", has dropped his 7th album The Carter 3. In an economy like this where albums struggle to even reach a million copies, this masterpiece hit a million in its first week. The last album to come close to this was 50 Cent's The Massacre which sold 800,000 in a weeks time-span. This time Lil Wayne elevates his game yet again, dropping in with a new catchy AutoTune themed album.
With hit tracks such as: Lollipop feat. Static Major, A Milli, and Got Money feat. T-Pain, it's no surprise why it went platinum. But in one week, is just incredible, it is one for the history books definitely.
What I think makes Lil Wayne a great artist, is his energy, or his so-called "Swag". It's the type of energy that gets your attention, and make you turn up your radio whenever he's playing in the car. Working with more modern day edge rappers/producers like Kanye West, and David Banner, elevating his sound to a new plateu. It's all too tough to really decypher through it all and depict where it all begins, and where it all ends. It's that great of an album, one you can hit the Shuffle button on your iPod to and just chill out for a couple of hours. As always -- there is criticism no matter the genre, and Lil Wayne got some bad reviews, but he also has four Grammy's to back it up.
Lil Wayne also had an army of a team to propel The Carter 3 to such proportions, such as: Kanye West, Static Major, Birdman, T-Pain, David Banner, Swizz Beats, Robin Thicke, and Jay-Z. Whether they were on it or produced it, they did a great job; and he could not have done this without them. As with any album, there are a couple bad apples in the tree. Bad Apples: Phone Home, Mrs.Officer, and You Aint Got Nothing. Other than that this album was an awesome listen. Lil Wayne seems to be a very passionate rapper, and has a vibe that his hard to resist. My ears have fallen victim to these tunes, and soon yours will as well. And if not, I will eat a handful of salt for every word in this article.
As of now the 29 year old spends his days touring; and working in the Studios like always. Hyping his highly anticipated 8th album, The Rebirth, which will be released on April 7th. Rumor has it that The Rebirth will be a 'rock' type of album, I am not sure how that will fare with Lil Wayne's fan base -- but it will be interesting to find out.
I highly reccommend buying this album, if you haven't already -- I give it a 9/10.
